Lomma Miniature Golf Marks 50th Anniversary
Celebrating 50 years in business in 2005, Lomma Miniature Golf Co. has sold 4,000-plus miniature golf courses worldwide. Scranton, Pa., brothers Ralph and Al Lomma opened their first miniature golf course in the early 1950s, and by 1955, had formed Lomma Miniature Golf to sell their creations to the general public. Ralph, and his late brother Al, designed several inventions to make their courses interactive and profitable, such as an 18-hole target that rewards players’ for their final shot and also serves as the owner’s control, locking balls inside the obstacle and electronically counting them. Almost two decades ago, Ralph started an indoor miniature golf division that by 1989 accounted for a third of the company’s business. Lomma’s prefabricated courses with pressure-treated wood borders can be themed using 80 different available hazards. There’s also the obstacle-free Pro-Am course, which uses undulations and different colors of carpet to simulate water hazards and sand traps. Lomma’s courses can be customized to fit the available space and budget, and the company provides marketing assistance in the form of an operator’s manual.

Coatings Protect and Restore Artificial Turf
Sports Coatings, a Rochester Hills, Mich., subsidiary of Coatings Specialist Group, has introduced two new coating products for the care and restoration of artificial grass carpeting and synthetic turf systems. Best used at the time of installation, V Guard is a topically applied UV coating that extends the life of artificial turf by adding extra protection to the surface, increasing the strength and durability of the grass, while protecting it from extreme weather conditions and foot traffic. Also topically applied, V Restore restores vibrant color to old, faded artificial grass carpeting. V Restore will also replenish lost UV protection, add durability back into carpet fibers by creating a protective sheath around the grass blades, and inhibit mold and mildew growth (also eliminating odors). Both products are water-based, environmentally friendly and nontoxic.
